Lyon’s Musée Miniature et Cinéma

The mission behind the Musée Miniature et Cinéma

Explore the passion that drives us!

One museum:
two passions

Many people don’t realise how much work and talent is involved in creating a short or full-length film.

Humans have enjoyed ‘play-acting’ for centuries. It started with the theatre, followed by the cinema about 100 years ago. Films have found a central place in our society because they allow anyone of any age to escape from their everyday lives. This art deserves to be supported in every possible way, and we are thrilled to be able to share the beauty of cinema through the ‘magic spyglass’ of the experts of illusion who work for the film studios.

Skilled hands that fashion costumes for extras and stars alike, magic fingers that sculpt otherworldly creatures, make-up and prosthetic artists who transform or beautify actors’ faces, and brilliant carpenters who build imaginary streets, castles and ships — these talented but little-known film studio workers add enormous value to every film they take part in. They are decorators, robotic animal designers, imaginary being sculptors, special effects modellers, prosthetic artists, firearm replica artists and more. They love their work and the public takes great pleasure in learning more about the at the Musée Cinéma & Miniature.
