Dan Ohlmann, the Miniature Artist
Founder of the Museum
A former woodworker and interior designer, Ohlmann builds his miniature scenes with a single goal in mind: to invite viewers to discover or re-experience different settings and environments from everyday life. From a charming 1980s artist’s loft to a depressing prison interior, not to mention the beautiful Art Nouveau architecture of the famous Maxim’s-de-Paris restaurant, Dan Ohlmann reveals the poetry that imbues every place that’s charged with history and real-life experiences.
Whether it’s a hushed Zen temple in Japan or a Lyon weaver’s workshop, the miniaturist constructs each of his evocative works based on hundreds of photographs and measurements taken at the original location. After this long and meticulous research, creating the miniature perfectly to scale requires months of hard work that combines precision and practical skill.
Dan Ohlmann draws the observer into their own adventure, an astonishing trip to another dimension.
