The studio where
miniatures are made
These workshops are not open to the public except during open house events, because the artists require extreme concentration for their work.
Occasionally, students from modelling schools or temporary interns come to the museum’s workshops as apprentices. As they work with Dan Ohlmann to learn the highly specialised profession of miniature art, they take part in a variety of annual projects. They learn to create prototypes, make models, and pour complex casts. They often participate directly in making the miniatures ordered by different institutions.
Laurie Courbier, currently in charge of our cinema exhibits, is also a miniaturist who sometimes constructs her own ultra-realistic scenes in these workshops.
It’s a place full of art, life and connections between miniaturists from all around the world.
The museum has a miniature acquisition fund. Each year, miniaturists from France and abroad create new pieces for our collections.
